No recall. Just replacing the fuel pump as those with the startup problem come in to the dealers.

Is there still a bad waiting list on these parts? I haven't taken mine in yet, but I've experienced the problem about 4 or 5 times so far, none recently. It's not much of a priority to me... if fact, I feel that the longer I wait, the newer the pump that I'll get and the less likely that it'll have the same problem.

We're backed up like you wouldn't believe. The PDC can't even stock them yet.

Fuel pump recall? Is there something wrong with them? Could someone please elaborate, I was never informed of this situation.

You were never informed because there is no actual recall.

Some Versas have experienced a problem where when you turn the key, they turn over but do not fire up. The second time you turn the key, they seem to work on all but the worst cases.

The problem is that in these units, the fuel pump is not holding pressure, and the car isn't getting enough fuel to start.

Nissan will fix it free under warranty. However, it doesn't seem to be all that widespread (less common than early TPMS issues), so that is why there is no recall... it simply doesn't effect enough cars to warrant that.

I thought "recalls" were only issued when it's a safety issue, such as a switch which is prone to catching fire or a latch that fails on a door in an accident, etc. I could be wrong, but wouldn't this just be issued as a TSB, meaning they will never actually inform current owners, just address it if its brought to their attention?

Not necessarily. That's just how most recalls come about - through the NHTSA. Recalls are usually brought about by safety issues because car manufacturers would rather not be held liable in the case of an accident.

From Edmunds.com...

Quote »If the manufacturer is found to be responsible for a serious defect that may compromise the safety of the vehicle, a recall is issued. In other instances, an auto manufacturer may find a defect that occurred during the design or manufacturing process of a vehicle and issue a recall voluntarily (the NHTSA still receives notification, though). Whatever the circumstances, a recall requires the manufacturer to send an official notice to owners of the vehicles found to be defective.[/quote]

wouldnt the fuel pump also effect the car when going on 30 or 40 then trying to hit 60 the enigne seems to stall for couple of seconds then hit the gas again and it hits up the speed?

Theoretically, it could. In this case, that's not the symptom that the cars have been displaying.

Also, what you're describing could also be caused by a dirty fuel filter.

I just bought my Versa in September and have about 2500 miles on it. So here's my question ot you Nissan techs out there...

It seems like it's taking my car an abnormally long time to start up when I turn the ignition. Moreso than my first V which I accidentally killed in an accident. Is this an early sign of the fuel pump problem? If so, I'll just get in line now and have them order the part sooner so they'll have it when I need it later, if you know what I mean....
