I had an issue where my fuel gauge would not report fuel levels I had the recall done:

now it mostly works , while driving sometime it will drop off then minutes later just start reporting correctly
any idea what would cause that , is the amplifier from the recall defective?

Did this happen immediately after the recall was performed? If so I'd get them to recheck the work. If it's been awhile, it's more likely you've developed a bad sender or a problem in the sender wiring.

Then you probably had a preexisting issue with the sender or wiring aside from the recall amplifier. Inaccuracy is one thing, but intermittent bouncing of the gauge is usually from worn or gummed contacts in the resistive strip of the sender.
