Here is what mine looks like. What worries me is that there is some flaking along the welding bead. Its not that noticeable in the photo but there is some. I think people should start uploading photos of theirs here. Im up in Toronto so this is a salty place in the winter.

When I asked a Nissan dealer about QX4 seat belts, they told me to go to an Infiniti Dealer, Nissan and Infiniti are considered 2 entities, so I am curious if only Infiniti look after Infiniti and Nissan does the rest.

Still no recall letter received. NO rust like anything the posted pics show, not even sure it is worth my time to bring it in assuming they send me a recall letter..

Sent Infiniti Canad my change of address.
Received a confirmation of the change, the recall, the seat belt issue.
COA- Acknowledged and accepted
Recall struts, fenders, rust---no letter is needed, take your vehicle from the correct years after an appointment and any Dealer will check it out. Pass, your on your way. Fail, they will immediately take it off the road. Fixable, Go home and Nissan will contact you.
Seat belt issue-Sorry we don't do anything*

* Contacted an Infiniti dealer...they will check it out may cost you, but if worn they will replace at no charge. Early units 96-2000 are warranted for life, newer units for 10 years

Hope this helps.

I have examined my 97 QX4 for the recall and nothing wrong, but seat belt have been scrubbed by me and work a bit better, since life time warranty will wait 'till they can not be cleaned.

I haven't gotten anything either. My suspension looks fine though. Don't think i'll bother taking it in anyway.

Took truck into dealership for inspection, no problems at all on the left side. However, asked them to take a look at the right side as the recall letter did not indicate which side of the car to inspect. Dealer did it quite willingly. Found major rust and cracking of housing on the right side, just what they were looking for on the left side. Headquarters was contacted as they did not know what to do with this situation and sent them pictures. Dealer kept car overnight, not wanting me to drive it while waiting for a response.

Nissan may be right - the only thing of importance above the passenger side strut tower is what looks like a wiring loom, some sort of hard lines, and depending on the failure mode the strut tower may come into contact with the power steering reservoir or A/C low pressure line hose, but I don't think any of those are life threatening - worst case is you lose power steering rather quickly should the reservoir be damaged and lose fluid, but I think manual steering would still function.

That really bites that Nissan won't cover any of that though. I wondered why they wouldn't cover the passenger side as one would assume it's just as prone to rust as the driver's side, but I suppose it's simply because failure of the driver side strut tower could lead to complete loss of steering.

Thanks for the info. Nissan asked me to take car to body shop for estimate of repairs, assuming this because we have 3 Nissans in the family. Body shop (designated by my dealership) said that they would have to remove the engine?!! I thought that in the repair manual for this defect they could do it from the wheel side using a metal patch as the fiberglass wouldn't work here, too much perforation. Will wait and see what happens, estimate going to hq.

My Pathy has been in at the dealer sitting for weeks as I drive around in a loaner Juke. Today Nissan Motors sent a rep to personally inspect my Pathy. At the same time they wanted a copy of my title. Later in the day the dealer calls and says they think it can be fixed with panels but will require further inspection tomorrow. Otherwise they are going to "make an offer" on my vehicle.

Anyone else dealing with this? I'm getting frustrated.

I purchased a Infiniti qx4 acouple years ago. About 2 months ago I was driving my infiniti, in a rush trying to make a tee time at a golf course. My brakes instantly disappeared. I used the emergency brake and swerved out of the way of traffic. I took my infiniti to a local shop and they said my brake line was cut by the frame. I asked him how much a repair would cost, he said nothing because it wasn't worth fixing :(. brand new tires, all options still work on it, yet i was told to scrap the SUV. two weeks later I received the recall papers from Infiniti (good timing). I called them and the closest infiniti dealer is 400+ miles away. I have a Nissan dealer in town, but no infiniti dealer until you get to Denver, CO. (I live in SD). Infiniti didn't want me to take it to the Nissan dealership, so they picked up my SUV and hauled it to Denver today for free...unsure what they are going to tell me once it gets there. And am slightly curious if they will ship me a replacement vehicle, perhaps a G35 or Nissan 370z would work nicely :). My SUV is in great shape, and I never would've expected rust issues underneath. Will keep everyone posted

Wow, I can't say I've heard of that one before. Fingers crossed it was just a lazy mechanic :rotfl

Seems Infiniti Canada really does not concern itself about all the rusted out fenders and struts since I was told, "We are not sending out recall notices". I do not know if this is true but I will not get a notice as per the person I was talking to on the phone. At Aug the endth no call yet. But when I called a dealer, I was told that there is a recall and I need to make an appointment to have my QX4 inspected.

I examined the vehicle because I really don't want to drive 100km for nothing. Thanks to the notices and discussions on this forum, I was able to eyeball the concerns and I can say there is no rust, no collapsed steering, no failing strut towers because I have replaced the towers 3x and oiled this beast for the last 10 of its 14 years.

In fact the only rust is at the window ledge under the rubberized trim.

Somebody on NPORA dug up the full recall PDF with repair details. It appears that owners of Pathfinders with no or only surface rust around the strut towers (both driver and passenger!) will get a free undercoating with this recall. I will print out the first page and ask the dealer for this service soon.

Apparently recall has been issued for and expanded to the right side now for the strut housing. That being the case on my vehicle. It now sits in the driveway, since May, and they gave me a rental a month ago, until they decide what they are going to do with it as I have major perforation only on the right side, nothing on the left, and it is in an area different than what is portrayed in the recall pics.
Anyone know what is happening with the non-repairable, (too expensive) scenarios?

thanks

Finally got my QX4 in for the recall yesterday. Turns out it was not that bad with little perforation. Anyway, they installed brackets, did some fiberglass, repaint and applied rust protection. It took them a while for sure.

Taking it back o the dealer on Tuesday for them to evaluate if its fixable or not. I don't think it looks too good though...

its strange because there isn;'t that much rust Anywhere else on the truck except on the drivers side wheel well.
