I searched this topic before posting and nothing came up, so sorry if this has been already posted. I purchased a certified 2011 Frontier in 2014. I received a email from the dealer 2 days ago saying I need to get the truck in ASAP for a open recall campaign. I went online and entered the VIN. It came up, "Recall campaign - oil cooler stud". It goes on to say,

SOME OF THE BOLTS THAT CONNECT THE ENGINE OIL COOLER AND THE ENGINE OIL FILTER TO THE ENGINE IN THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED TO BELOW SPECIFICATION STRENGTH. AS A RESULT, THE BOLT MAY BREAK AT THE OIL FILTER ATTACHMENT POINT AND CAN CAUSE AN ENGINE OIL LEAK.

IF THERE IS AN ENGINE OIL LEAK, THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WOULD DROP AND THE ENGINE COULD SEIZE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CONNECTOR BOLTS.

The first notice was sent to the original owner in 2012. I asked when I called why this wasn't caught and repaired on the used vehicle certification process ? It states on the check list paper no outstanding recalls.

Anyway, they say they will need the truck all day, it's not something I can wait for ? Seems long for some bolts. Has anyone else had theirs changed, and how long has it taken.

Really like this truck, but I've dealt with this dealer 3 times and they leave little to be desired. Waited over 1.5 hours for the first free oil change.

It would help other's to know the detail's about your truck, engine, 2wd/4wd, at/mt, ect. Putting the info in your signature, and you won't have to retype it when asked.

It alway's take's me longer to do maintenance/repair than I think that it will. Sometime's a lot longer, depending.

Maybe you can take the truck to another Dealer, since it is a Recall.

Would you have rather them not send you the notice,, and Your Truck's Engine become toast?

Maybe they'll let you have a loaner or rental for your trouble's. Talk to the Service Manager, about your Woe's.

Long ago,, I was told,, that if I wasn't satisfied with someone else serviceing/repairing my Vehicle,, that it was time for me to start doing my own. Now, I do as much Maintenance/Repair that I feel comfortable doing. When it's something that I don't want to do,, or not have time to do,, then I take it to the dealer or to another Mechanic that I'm comfortable with.

I took my Truck in for the 1st Free Oil Change as well, but I had allready changed the oil/filter,, and just asked them to check it over for good measure.

You could also tell them, that the Oil Filter Access Opening isn't big enough too, For many of us anyway. :)

Good Luck,

After the first oil change, I have done all since. I also only return to the dealer for the things I am not comfortable doing. I keep all receipts and use Nissan oil filters. We live in a rural area, and the Dealer is 1.5 hours away. It's to far for their courtesy van to bring us home. I was just curious if others on here had the repair done and how long it took. Not bashing Nissan. Dealers are independent. It seems strange they need the truck one whole day for this repair. The Nissan dealer in Pittsburgh had my Brothers truck's V-6 timing belt and water pump changed in a day. And he has in the area of 280,000 miles. Maybe I'll call them to see if I can wait. Or just rent a car here ?

I can understand with you being so far away, that it make's it hard on you.

It's possible that they have many recall's to deal with, or maybe they aren't sympathetic to doing recall's.

Good to hear that you are like me in doing your own Service as much as you can. Save's money,, and We know,, what we do,, as when other's do the service we don't know sometime's what or how they did the work.

Good also that you are useing the Nissan Oil Filter's,, that's the same as I've alway's done as well, since starting back when I got my First Nissan Truck,, back in '93.

When I had a Water Pump put on the '93 by Nissan,, I wanted to wait,, but they said that I couldn't and they gave me a rental car. Something that I didn't expect,, and told them,, that I didn't mind waiting,, but they insisted, so the rental car it was.

I hadn't rented a car in a long time, at least 20 year's,, and I learned something when driveing that rental car; that I didn't like keyless ignition,, and that I don't much like the key fob much either.

That's one thing that I miss on the new Frontier,, that it doesn't have a key entry on the passenger door. Hard to teach an old dog new trick's I guess. But Still remember a car near the entrance of WalMart,, with the Trunk Wide Open with no driver or attendee. They Probably accidentally pushed the button on the keyfob and opened the trunk going into WalMart.

Anyway,, sometime's we just have to find a way to deal with the shop,, but I've alway's found,, that it pay's to be nice,, but also take note's, just in case.

Good Luck and hopefully the service will go smoothly,

Dropped the truck off 4/21/15. My wife followed me with her car, and we went to Sam's club, out to eat, and the casino for a couple hours. Called on the way back and lady said we can take the truck. Walked into service and they said the cashier had my keys. She was nice but said sorry sir, but we did not have the parts to repair your truck. We ordered them and will call to reschedule when they come in. I guess service was afraid to tell me ? And the Saga continues, LOL :gotme

My Goodness,

Sound's like they are just not all together, @ that Service Dept.

Course on the otherhand,, they may have gotten the wrong part's. Who know's,, but hopefully they'll get it together and get your truck's Recall completed.

Car's and Truck's are so much more complicated now,, so I guess it's just not what it used to be.

Good luck,
