alright to start off i am new to imports and this is my first rebuild of a import motor but i have experience with domestics. a little background...i just rebuild my buddys 91 ka24de w/auto transmission. after a couple small problems got the motor and transmission back in the car but it wont start. it cranks and a little exhaust comes out but thats it.

1)i check for fuel pressure which is 40psi2)got new plugs all of which are sparking3)tested the coil....good4)replace coolant temp sensor 5)and i and pretty sure the neutral safety switch is working ( kinda odd tho cuz it buzzes with the key on but only when the battery is low?? )6) oh and i have check the timing. the rotor points at #1 when at tdc

honestly i am so lost as to what the problem is...i assume its electrical but dont know where to start looking. if anyone can help me out i would really appreciate it.thanks,Nick

pull #1 spark plug out a check compression. Should be 120-150lbs. Also while you have #1 plug out rotate engine and bring #1 up on compression stroke, make sure the rotor button is pointing to #1 now. Could be 180 degrees out. Make sure injectors are firing. Put a screwdriver to your ear and listen for the clicking sound. Also check for codes, you should be able to flash out codes.

but doesnt the distributor only install one way? so how could it be 180 degrees off? you mean like pull the distributor out and turn the gear maybe then reinstall it? i will check compression tomorrow cant hurt. why would the neutral safety switch buzz like that tho?

the gear will mesh up in any witch way but only one way will make the car run........pull the dizzy, set the no1 cyl on TDC durring the compression stroke, and install the dizzy so the rotor points to the no1 plug on the cap. sometimes it takes a time or two to get it right.

I did my like this on the dizzy there is the middle line on the second the one that turn there two dots on it line up the big one with the middle line and once you insert it it will turn and line up with the number one cyl and should fire right up..once u have it at tdc on the pully and the compression side...and don't forget the free turn..

if your timing is 180* out you may have to drop the oil pump under the car and pull the crank out of the dizzy set the rotor on 1st cyl and then reinstall the crank to make sure the tip of it is sitting right in the dizzy the tip should be either have a cresent or a rectangle then put everything back togetherworked for me and make sure you dont spill the oil thats sitting in the pump if you do poor a little in it

ok so the car sounds smooth when running but when i check it with the timing light the timing indicator isnt pointing at any of the timing marks it pointing a light to the right of the closes marks and that is with the distributor turned all the way to the right. so i am assuming the pull the dizzy back out make a little adjust to TDC at the crank and it should be good? does that all sound right or maybe have to adjust the idle?

Should check the crank first..to make sure it's right on the tdc...and if u open the oil cap and look at the loobs inside they should be pointed away from each other that's ur compression side then reinsert the dizzy..keep up posted

to set the timing I think you have to unplug the TPS sensor to put computer in base timing and then check with a light. Sometimes you may have to pull the dist. out and move one tooth up or back to get it right.

ok so i pulled the the valve cover off and the lobes are facing away from each other but mark are they suppose to line up with on the crank? would it be the one on the far right because i because the fsm says timing should be at 20 with an auto.
