Hey everyone. I've been reading most of these forums for about a week now and it all looks very helpful so I thought I'd make an account and see if I could get some help...

Well I rebuilt the motor on my 93 Hardbody and almost all of the electrical is brand new. But for some reason my motor acts like it's lagging. It idles just fine but the motor sounds like a buddy of mine's misfiring RB20 lol. But when I go to go to drive it it acts like it has no power what so ever. :wtf2: So I've been reading some of these port saying how the EGR valve was causing some of the problems... Well to get the motor in and to connect the exhaust I had to cut that pipe off that goes into the exhaust... This is the last thing I could think of so if someone could help me on this I would be completely grateful.

Thanks guys...

First off, thanks for signing up and welcome to NICO. Did you set the proper timing position on the distributor? If it's off a tooth you could have a lag.

Thank you... Well when we first put the motor back in we figured out that the timing was 180 degrees off. So to my knowledge it has been fixed. I didn't do that part myself. Could this be why it would be hard to start when it's cold? I'll start it up and 5 seconds later it'll die but it will stay running the second time.

That may be a fuel delivery problem.

Hhhmmmmmm. With a new fuel pump and a fuel pressure regulator? I'm just hoping that I don't need fuel injectors. Those things are expeeeeeensive.

Sounds like the timing is too retarded. On another note when you rebuild the engine and you put the timing chain on did you rotate the engine twice to make sure it stayed in mechanical time?

Yes I did. I belive we did it like 3 or 4 times just make sure it was right. I might have to double check the timing for the distributer that Rev was talking about.

It sounds like timing to me. Put a timing light on it and see what where the timing is at. It should be at 10 +or- 2 degrees.

Edit: Also, when installing the oil pump did you line up the oil hole with the little punch mark on the shaft? If you are a tooth off on this, your timing will be off. Luckily you can easily reset this.
