rebuilt ka24de MAF sensor Code 12

i have a 93 hatch with a freshly rebuilt ka24de out of an s14. used all s13 timing components so its an s13 wiring harness, ECU, MAF, distributor, etc etc.
car was running fine a few days ago. was driving home and pulled third a little bit. when i shifted into fourth it started losing speed. slight bogging under throttle, but could get it to maintain speed in 5th gear. pulled up to a stop light and neutral dropped, car died. limped car home and parked it.

car starts up and runs every time. idles at about 750 to 900 but goes up and down from 500-1200 or so every so often. ECU is throwing code 12 which i know is for the MAF. replaced MAF with my spare, same thing. checked all wires, replaced the MAF plug with a pigtail from a spare harness, same thing. smells like its running fairly rich, has a minor exhaust leak or two. no vacuum leaks that i can find, car doesnt smoke. rebuild has about 1500 miles on it. has ran perfect since motor was put back in. timing is dead on 20 degrees BTDC. 5speed, exhaust, test pipe, intake, intake manifold block offs, EGR delete, walbro 255. no modifications were done right before this problem started, and im out of ideas.

Check power, ground (continuity from maf ground to chassis) and signal (at the ecu) with a multi meter and let me know what you find.

kind of at a loss at how to check the voltage and continuity. where should i be checking? and what pins? i know theres only three wires for the MAF, but which ones need to be checked?
i replaced the MAF plug and redid some of the wires from a prior fix but it didnt help. and neither of my mafs make a difference. i dont know where else to look.

also, does anyone know how to reset or clear the ecu? id like to try and clear it and see if the code resets.
