I just rebuilt my ka24de, put it in, wired it up, grounds ect. I have done this step before on a previous swap. This being my first rebuild I can't get my motor to start... Yes my timing is correct, yet my spark is good (even rotating the cap 180 degrees just to be sure). After several attempt to start I checked my compression on the front cylinder, at 70, I pored motor oil through the spark plug hole to help, now reading in the 160. I managed after using propane gas and the motor oil in all cylinders to get it to run for like ten seconds.
Followed by "put put pusshh". This seems like an awful lot of work to get a motor to start if it was built properly (by me). I used perfect circle rings and had the local motor shop give it a slight hone and check the block. I don't know if I broke a cylinder ring while installing them or is there some other possibilities. Tomarrow I have two choices, take the motor out dissemble once more and see if my piston ring is broken or try try again.
Talking to friends there seems to be to theories, mine and that on a start up of a freshly rebuilt motor compression doesn't matter because the rings haven't had time to seat properly and that if my ring was broken I would be getting a compression of like 5. Is this true and what do you recommend, what are your experiences with starting up fresh motors??? Anything would help because I don't honestly know what I'm doing enough to make an informed decision. So if anyone out in the great world of NICO could remove my clouds of ignorance I would greatly appreciate it. - Thanks
