Our 92 Q has around 113K on the clock and recently while having my tires replaced, the installer told me that my calipers are starting to show leaking seals. I assumed that he was talking about the front units being that he said it was of paramount importance that I have this dealt with ASAP.

He quoted me $400 for the job (Royal Motors in Beverly Hills). Daedalus tells me that this job is a RPIA and that I might think of going with rebuilt units.

So my question are:

1. Factory vs generic - what are the major differences? Any one know?

2. What is an acceptable price per unit?

3. Does anyone have a good source, other than the dealership for factory rebuilts?

TIA

I've heard somewhere that the same caliper unit is also used on a Toyota truck and are available at a considerable discount through that route. May be B.S., but it's worth checking. You don't hear of many leaking calipers unless the brake fluid maintenence is just really bad so I'd also get a second opinion on the need for the replacement unless they showed you some evidence of the problem.
