Hi all,

Workshop has rebuilt me a (long motor) only the block and head were put back together with new rings, bearings seals and reused piston,rods,crank...etc

brought it home to connect everything else back like manifolds timing belt and everything i had at home but had lost motivation for about 6months now i want to get back into it but my main concern is that there was never any oil in it since it was rebuilt! i've nver turned it or put oil in myself so what i want to know is whats going to go wrong?
i assume there will be some sort of condensation! will i need to pull it all apart again?

Basically what happenss to a new motor when no oil since rebuild?

There is no issue here. The only thing you need to do is fill it with oil, prime it by starting the engine with no engine management components connected to lubricate the engine and you should be good to go. Remember, if your builder built the engine correctly, then most friction surfaces will be pre-lubed.

thanks for fast response! the motor is still on engine stand and the reason i havent been able to manually turn it over is because i've only got normal engine oil and obviously it needs run in oil.
thanks again!

No issues. Everything should be lubricated during assembly. When I've just rebuilt a motor, I just fill it with the house brand oil from Advance Auto and a good oil filter.

To prime the oil system after filling it with oil, I disable the EMS, remove the spark plugs, and then turn it over until the oil light goes out. THIS WILL TAKE WHAT SEEMS LIKE FOREVER! Often in the order of 30 seconds, so make sure your battery is fully charged. Removing the spark plugs is a big one as it takes a lot of the load off of the rod bearings, plug it allows the engine to spin much faster, which primes the system quicker.

and If you cant get your pressure gauge to spike, or the idiot light to shut its face, don't fire the motor. Use a shop vac to pull oil up into the filter housing or the pressure sending unit while someone is cranking it.

This sounds like a good idea too. I might have to try that the next time I have to build and engine...which won't be anytime soon, LOL!

You could also manually prime it with a big a** socket wrench (and pipe on it for more leverage if you need it) and just manually crank it via the crank.

turning the motor by hand is not going to spin the pump fast enough to build pressure. THE best method, is to pack the oil pump gears with some fresh vaseline/petroleum jelly from CVS. This way here with the plugs out, your pump builds pressure in a freaking heartbeat.

and that's only the best method when your engine is in pieces, before you go putting everything together type thing. Don't tear it apart now cause you cant build pressure, do the shop vac gig first.
