I thought I was getting close to completing my KADE rebuild, but the shop said I should check the rods to see if they got bent when the bearings went out. This was fine and dandy till I realized I cant get the pistons out from the bottom of the block. All I have to say about that is WTF now I have to take the head off and buy new gaskets. That is so stupid. I also have to take the cam shafts out to take the head off. This engine wasnt designed to be user friendly thats for sure. Anyway anyone have any good rods for sale. Im pretty sure the 2 and 3 rods are shot.

I've never seen an engine that could drop the pistons out the bottom. Even if it could be done how would you compress the rings to reinstall the pistons? It is unfortunate that nobody thought of it before you put the head on but don't blame the engine.

If you were rebuilding the engine you should of had all the tolerances on the bottem end checked anyway

Wasnt really trying to rebuild, mostly trying to get it running again after my rod bearings went out. Another setback isnt that horrible I guess. I about broke the allen socket I was using trying to take the head bolts off though. a few of them were incredibly tight

theres a special tool to get the head bolts off. that you can use with a breaker bar then a torque wrench when u put it back on and torque it down right.

Why do you have to take the cams off the head. Couldn't you just take off the timing chain or something? OHC engines are a lot more "user-friendly" than say an OHV engine because the lack of pushrods. Only major thing I can think of to take off to take off the cylinder head is the timing chain? Just make sure you get the little marks lined up when you put it back together. Also, I don't know if buying individual rods would be a good idea. Unless you know they were for sure balanced you might end up with another problem. Get a set or have your individual "good" ones balanced.

The cams block access to the head bolts so they must be removed. Both OHV and OHC motors have their quirks. Some are worse than others of course.

In the future, any time you pull the bottom end apart because you spun a bearing you really need to get all the clearances checked.

JRC how much are you asking for the sohc 8.6:1 pistons and rods? and any clue on how much shipping to 52341 would be?
