After doing a bit of research most people just seem to do a simple rebuild consisting of new pistons, ie je pistons because the rods are forged and the pistons are the weak point. Now, when you guys drop in just new pistons, do you customized the pistons to equal the piston weight of the stock KA24de pistons or just throw in the whole new set of je pistons that are lighter. Does this affect the engine at all if you just throw in the lightened forged pistons?

also has anyone heard of cryotreating parts of their block? Like the rods or anything else. My friend recommended to me to put in forged pistons and cryotreat the rods. Apparently cyrotreating is a new thing that helps improve the strength of metals and other moving parts of the car.

when you have your pistons installed, you will need to have a machine shop bore+hone the block first (among other things).. usually the next step in the build process is to have the whole rotating assembly (that includes pistons/rod/crank/flywheel/clutch) all balanced together. This is a BIG DEAL when getting an engine to run right, especially a high peformance, high reving engine like ours.

As for cryotreating, I dont know all that much about it except that I heard it does do some good. I would talk with your trusted machinist when you bring your block down to be bored.

hmm, i thought u could just get custom pistons that are forged to match the stock weight of the KA pistons and just drop them in so it doesn't throw off the whole entire rotating assembly... Can't do that???

um, no.if you weight each of your stock pistons and sent the weight in they might be willing to do that but Im sure you would pay out the *** for it and in the end there wouldn't be any guarantee that the thing would be balanced once it was bolted together.changing pistons isn't a drop in affair anyway. well, not in my opinion. I just did it.

Just weigh your replacement pistons . If they are within about 5 grams of the original pistons then you are within tolerance.
