I'm going the KA-T route for my s14, since I already had a taste of SR in my Sil-Eighty. I looked at Boostdesigns and PhatKA-T's webistes and saw their services for the engine rebuild. Is it worth the money to send it to them? I don't want to half *** this turbo set-up. I want a reliable set-up. For the people who had their KA's built, what other shops did you send it out to? Preferably in the So Cal Area?

I already have a T3/T4 turbo and I am piecing the kit together slowly. I have a spare KA that I'm going to use, since I can't build up my current one, since it's the only car I have for now.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Well, once it's boosted, it won't be my daily driver, but I still want it reliable at around 12-15psi. Just saying that seems like it it's worth it to rebuild and pay that much.

Well, my budget doesn't really matter right now since I'm not really in a rush to do this, so I can take my time. I'm asking this because the spare KA block I have has only 90k miles on it and was in perfect condition when it was pulled out.

THP is very reasonable on their price for a built KA. $3800 i think for the built motor and turbo setup. here is my car they are finishing right now

Dos THP have an address? Also, you said built motor and turbo set-up, does that mean they include the manifold, downpipe, etc? Or is it just the rebuild? Where is it located at? I would prefer a local shop.

the boostdesigns thing is well worth it.

i subtracted the prices of the parts i saw on the website and plus the core charge(sending ur block to them i think is not worth the 250$)

so what u get back is an engine for basically ~400$ something thats been vatted and cleaned and decked and polished crank. plus the prices of the items of the hardware put in (free installation basically)

well worth it if my calculations are correct

max

BTW im wondering does the core charge include just a price of a used engine? so basically if i pay 2000 (built block with ex mani etc) + 250 core charge + 400 port polished head that means im getting a fully built engine basically minus the intake manifold for 2750$ rite? or what do i get for that

This is why the boostdesigns turbo kit is so cheap. [image]http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/share.jsp ... Name=Photo[/image]

It has the wrong angle on the down pipe and the intercooler does not fit without major bending of the support arms. Not to mention I have had to buy parts that were supose to come with the kit. You get what you pay for (crap). I have other pictures if anyone want them.

Dan why dont you show one picture of the turbo bolted to the manifold just 1111111111111111111111111. looks like to me you bolted the turbo to the DP and let it lean back from the weight of the DP on the turbo. you wont even take a pic of it from the front if you show its our fault we will replace it although you have been doing this for months so i doubt there is anything wrong with it.

Anyway about tophat. By chance do they do E rebuilds? i know that sounds kind of funny. But, switching over to DE is a pain in the arse.

Hmm... $3750 is a pretty good price for a rebuild complete with a turbo, turbo manifold, and wastegate.

Any local shops in So Cal?

I'm pretty sure they can. I'm going to look at the Yellow Pages tomorrow for machining shops around here. I guess if you want local, go look around!

Hm, I didn't know Mike was doing crate KA's now. For that matter, I didn't even know he was still really around. He does good work.
