Hey fellow nissan-ers, I decided to replace valve stem seals on my 300zx because they were too gapped out and caused the car to smoke on idle. I just did the plenum pull (wondering if i should do a water bypass) and I want to know what checklist i should keep in mind wile the engine is in this stage. I was also thinking about replacing the cam sprockets with non adjustable ones or should I keep my VTC? Im not planning on raising boost past 13 psi since the engine is stock except for the basic bolt ons.

I did not pull the heads off the engine because there was no need to. I did remove the plenum, replace the valve stem seals and clean the sticky lifters. It was quite the PITA because the cylinders needed to be pressurized inorder for the valves not to collapse into the cylinder. Also the angle of approach for this job was quite uncomfortable specially when removing the valve springs etc. Over all, I would recommend you pull the engine, I just had to learn the hard way  the only thing that was easy about the job was, changing the cams because that was all just top end work.

Villan3g if you want to rebuild your heads, Its much easier to just get stands and engine hoist and do it in your own garage... rather than learning acrobatics to wedge yourself into the tiny engine bay heh
