Hi,

I'm attempting to rebuild the OEM shifter, this includes new bushings as well as plastic pivots and new rubber boots for the pivot ball.

Only issue I'm having is that I have no way to put on the new rubber boots and plastic pivots because there is a metal bracket which prevents these parts from going on.

I wanted to ask if the OEM shifter is two pieces? If I could screw the top of the shifter off, it would allow me to install these new parts.

Thought I'd ask before I go breaking anything.

Thanks.

The shifter is a two piece, but is "glued" together with rubber urathane. The bottom dust cover can be installed from the bottom, warm it up with a hair dryer and add a drop of oil to lube it up. Top metal ring with the notches is pressed in; it can be pushed up and removed. Install plastic pivot and top rubber dust boot from the top. Make note of the position of notches before pushing out.
Easiest way is to place in a bench vise and tap the top of the shifter, with rubber mallet so you don't damage the threads.
