So I know I didn't post a whole lot of info on my setup, so here we go. I'm going to be running either an SR T25 or a GtiR T28. The head is getting toga valve stem seals and a 3-angle valve job (standard, I know). I have done a lot of searching on head work, valve jobs, etc, and I have my head at a performance shop. They are sending my head to a machine shop to have the head cleaned, taken appart, and sent back to them this thursday at which point I will be discussing the work to be done. So I want to have as much ammo as I can. Please help guys! Anyone who has had porting done. I dont want to fubar up my head.

get her really, really polished out. The casting on mine was a little crappy, so the coolant passages arent all as big as they are supposed to be. If yours is the same, I would want to go clean them out with a file or something.

Nissan's as a whole don't generally flow well on the exhaust side, I'd spend the most amount of time there. Just clean up the intake side a bit, getting rid of the casting marks and such and call it good. The exhaust you want polished to a mirror finish.

Okay...so I got an estimate, its going to be about $500 with milling, pressure testing, valve gjob, setting valve height, 1 intake valve which was apparently bent, and some porting and polishing. The valve job is $319 So the rest is porting. Does this sound about right? Thanks guys.

good threads on sxoc with pictures, most of them 4 ports tho.Pretty port don't necessarily mean better. I'd follow something like sideways danny head tips as the results speak for itself. You can do more damage than good, with misuse of a porting tool.

I can't seem to find any posts by sidways danny called head tips, but anyway, is $500 about right for a 3 angle, mill, and smoothing out some rough castings?

machine shops here range $600-$1000 CAD for that work, and you have to bring the bare head to them and they'll reassemble it for you. a friend of mine does the work in his garage (no flow bench testing though) for a cool $400-500.

but to pay for that much and not even have cams or a bigger turbo? what's the point? the head flows plenty fine under 300HP i thought.

Well, the head had one bent valve. So I figured I may as well get a head job. The $500 includes decking the head surface and guide knurling as well, and guide replacement as needed. I'd like to have them put some hipo springs and retainers in there while everything is appart, but I'm having a little trouble finding some. Also, I have a T28, which sould be pusing around 330-350 when done, so I'd like the head to not be a restriction.

$500 sound fair. Good luck with the springs and retainers. You'll prob have to buy a set for the VG30DE(TT) and then try and sell 1/2 a set to somebody.

If I sell 1/2 the set, I'll only have 12 springs and retainers.. I found a couple people that sell just the springs, but no retainers.
