Hi,I'm in the process of rebuilding my engine, I know that I can use parts from the '89 Pulsar (ca18de) but are these parts as good as the parts for the CA18DET engine? For example : headgasket, piston rings, etc. etc.Are they the same quality??

Do you use parts from the Nissan dealer or other auto parts stores? What brand? Federal Mogul, Clevite 77, Michigan??

Can someone please shed some light here?

Thanks.......

pistons and rings should be dedicated turbo stuff since the NA motor uses 9.5-1 and isn't supose to see the kind of operating pressure that the turbo puts the motor under.

The headgasket works just fine, same with all the bearings, oilpump, waterpump, main bolts, rod bolts, headbolts, it's all the same. The NA also uses the turbo crank and rods.

The intake and exhaust manifold gaskets are also the same, so you can interchange them when you rebuild.

The NA timing belt also works.....

only thing that dosn't come off the NA motor is the O2 sensor, that's off the CA18ET powered 200sx (s12).

Paul,

Can I use the N/A piston rings on the turbo CA engine? Will it work fine? (max boost about 19 lbs)What brand of parts do you recommend? From the Nissan dealer or aftermarket?

I think the ring gap on the NA rings might be a bit too tight, but you could always file them down to make it fit the way you want it. I'm not sure how thick the rings are either on the NA vs Turbo. I thew out the set of NA pistons I had so I couldnt tell you.

JE can get you the specs on the ring (they sell a CA18DET piston) Also CP piston has the specs (that's what I'm running).

As for parts, I just got Federal bearings, a factory oil pump and water pump, factory head and rod bolts, about everything else was from either Autozone or Discount autoparts.

My headgasket is a Greddy metal one that I got off Ebay for a good price.

hope that helps a little,
