Is it possible to rebuild a manual trans yourself? I have am on my 2nd used trans and this one is starting to grind a bit, and could possibly be the syncros. This is 2 trans in less than 2 months and I'm getting tired of switching the trannys. How hard is it to rebuild a manual trans and where can I get stronger internals from? I don't want to spend $1000 on an autozone transmission, and I don't want to spend $300 on a junkyard trans that could die in 2 months.

Any ideas?

check the link in my sig for parts....Its not that hard if you are inclined and have rebuilt one before. Its very tedius and requires lots of work space, labeling and cleaning. It takes time to if you aren't a pro at it. You will have to disassemble it then check out which syncros are bad and buy according to...

Its really not that bad IMO, good luck!

Candela is right - it's not THAT difficult, just very time consuming, especially if you've never cracked open a transmission before. There's a surprisingly large number of parts inside there, and they only fit together one way - any mistakes, and it just won't work. So if you're thinking about doing a rebuild yourself, make sure to have an entire garage floor at your disposal for labeling and sorting parts, as well as a detailed diagram of how everything goes together. (FSM)

Take your time, clean EVERYTHING, and make sure to follow the exact instructions. It's just like putting together a model kit... on a much larger scale.
