Candela is right - it's not THAT difficult, just very time consuming, especially if you've never cracked open a transmission before. There's a surprisingly large number of parts inside there, and they only fit together one way - any mistakes, and it just won't work. So if you're thinking about doing a rebuild yourself, make sure to have an entire garage floor at your disposal for labeling and sorting parts, as well as a detailed diagram of how everything goes together. Take your time, clean EVERYTHING, and make sure to follow the exact instructions. It's just like putting together a model kit... on a much larger scale.
