I am planning on pulling my KA out in order to rebuild it so I can turbo it. I want it to be able to handle around 400-450hp. I've looked at the AMS Advanced Rebuild Kit for it. Is that too much for the power I'm looking for? Would just rebuilding it to stock specs be enough or should I go with a kit along those lines?

ok, questions in itemized order.....

1) Have you ever owned or driven a light weight high hp car, or an s chassis with over 300 hp before?

2) Is your car ready to handle that much power.....I.E. what are the supporting mods, is your suspension and braking system already up to par for 400 hp? Cooling system? saftey?

3)what is the car gonna be used for, drag, drift, grip racing, daily?

my opinion(although it doesnt really mean anything) that that anything under the 330hp mark the stock bottom end will do, with a good tune, the 330-350hp area is kind of a no mans land, you either can or not and your car may be fine, anything above 350hp and its essential to rebuild with high quality forged internals, the AMS kit is a good one, but if you wanna save a few dollars you can buy everything seperately( not everything they give you is absolutely required, but for the price everything they include is about what youll pay buying it seperately, so why not get a nice package)

Eagle rods, JE/ Arias/ CP pistons, ARP Studs, gasket kit, timing kit(chain and tensioners), Clevite or ACL bearings....

ok answers

1) Yes I have driven higher horsepower cars but never a higher horsepower s chassis or even higher horsepower rwd. on a side note I will be keeping boost low until I get more use to it then I will start turning up the boost slowly.

2) I am working on getting all the supporting mods in order to handle 400hp. I'm getting 300zx calipers and performance pads along with larger rotors and stainless lines and all those goodies to go along with it. Suspension is all ordered and/or sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. Haven't got anything for my cooling system but that will be done before I boost. As for safety I haven't thought much about it. I do not want a cage and want to keep my interior stock looking. Is there much I can even do safety wise?

3) The car honestly will only be a daily. Is 400 hp too much for a daily driven s13?

its not too much for a daily, but it starts getting to the level where you may have problems with things breaking (driveline), and some reliability may go out the window

as far as saftey and cooling goes, GOOD seats( not any of this cheap generic racing seat crap) and a good aluminum radiator and fans (whether they be electric or mechanical)

Thats pretty much what I had in mind for cooling. As for seats I really only wanted to go s14 seats. Will those be ok or should I actually go for an actual racing seat?

s14 seats are fine, just make sure not to skimp when it comes to your saftey
