after all the issues i have had, i think im just going to tear it down and rebuild it..like an overhaul..rings,bearings,gaskets sensors etc..will the overhaul be worth the price? should i a big difference with it being rebuilt?

If you're looking for moderate to big performance, then either rebuild with higher or lower comp pistons, depending on where ya wanna go with it. Of course going turbo will yield more power and for cheaper but some people prefer NA, in which case you could get some SOHC pistons and shave em down a bit I think so you can run pump gas.

I'd go ahead and rebuild it, if you've got the cash to do it. The KA is a decent motor. And if you are planning to do some performance on this rebuild, the KA will definately be worth it. Pistons, Rings, Rods, Camshafts, Camgears, Valve Springs. Sensors shouldn't need to be replaced really, I haven't had to replace any of the sensors on my car and it's 15 years old. And yes if you completely rebuild the motor, and you know what you're doing, you should see a big difference in performance.

I am planning to rebuild my ka24de motor soon too and I see that ka24de.com has the good parts. I live in California so i would definitely go NA. If I change the camshaft(don't know which one but I want to have more than the stock power) and have a high comp ratio of 10.5:1, will my car be able to pass the smog? I am also looking for a shop that can do the rebuild and install for me. If you have any info, please let me know? thanks.

I wouldn't bet on passing emissions with cams. I'm not saying all cams cause you to fail but alot do.

If an add-on chip or computer is not illegal, is it possible to use it (add-on computer or chip) to control the smog issue? I don't want to replace the cams when everytime I do smog. I hope it's possible just like how Tein did with the EDFC.
