I'm possibly looking at picking up a set of HKS coilovers for pretty cheap. Seller has never used them but he thinks the rears are blown and suggests a rebuild before installing. Is rebuilding any sort of DIY operation like replaces seals and such and then having them recharged, or would I have to call HKS and see what they offer for a rebuild service?

Rebuilds are not really a DYI. It involves a lot more than you might think.Your best bet, if you were to buy these would be to ask HKS if they can rebuild them for you and at what cost.

Honestly, buyer beware when buying used coilovers. Even though the seller stated they were never used, then why would the rears potentially be blown and how would he know that?

They are used, but he says he's never used them as long as he's owned them, a friend of his had them on his car and he assumes he might have been pretty hard on them.

Reaper- This is just my opinion and I am not trying to sell you anything here but, in a tight economy where you have saved your money from all that hard work (assuming you work) and you would spend it on a used set of coilovers that may or may not need a rebuild? Estimate that you will pay about $125 per corner for rebuild plus shipping and handling round trip to HKS and your are already $310 bucks more than the deal you are getting.

Is it such a good deal?

hes just covering his a**, that way if you find out that they're blown, hes just gonna say he told you so...

you might have some luck getting them rebuilt at a motorcycle shop... it really depends on their equipment and if they're willing to do so.

otherwise, you'll have to send it to HKS... which may or may not take a super long time.
