my 91 240 w/ ka24de has recently took a crap. a rod blew out of the side of the block so i will be getting another bottom end from a local junk yard.

i would like to rebuild it before putting it in. i was thinking of boring it to 2.5, new pistons to fit for a 9:1 cr ( in case i want turbo later), new sleeves, rods, crank, bearings, etc...

also i would like to port/polish the head with new springs, valves.

would u recommend anything done to the 5spd transmission? (it drives fine, but this would be the best time to take a look at it)

i plan to drive this for about 6-10 months before i can afford getting a turbo, so what do you think for the mean time? how would it drive wit the 9:1 cr?

thx

this totally eliminates the point of your first post. And just check the transmission to make sure there's nothing wrong with it.

DOHC engines are 9.5:1 normally. It will be a little less powerful in the NA trim but more resistant to knock when turbooed. It'll more or less be like driving with a SOHC in the car.

You will NOT feel a difference when going from 9.5:1 to 9:1 compression pistons, especially when you are rebuilding the entire motor. A fresh motor will feel more responsive, and more powerful anyways due to better sealing of the piston rings to the cylinder walls.

I would also highly recommend Supertech pistons.
