I talked to Pulsar about this and asked if I could take a CA to a rebuilding chop and have it rebuilded as long as I had the FSM for the engine.

I was curious as to whether any of you had your engine rebuilt by a rebuilding place or if you yourself did the rebuild? What did they need to have to do the rebuild? Did you have to source the parts from Australia or do they do that for you? Input would be greatly appreciated! :)

Do all engine rebuilds yourself.....May take more time but you'll appreciate your machine that much better.

I have the FSM tho some pages are out of order, but yeah do the rebuild yourself, I think there is site that will be selling CA pistons soon, also try norrisdesigns.com for a knife edge crank

I dont have the tools for the rebuild otherwise I would I have like basic wratchets and drivers and torque wrench and hydro jack and air ratchets and uhhh.. you know the basic stuff I dont have like a piston heater or a ring tool or a balancer for the pistons or rods I dont even have toilet paper come to think of it... need to go to the store.

BUt in all seriousness I wouldnt be able to do the proper rebuild without those tools I have the FSM as well but dang it isnt as indepth as I figured it to be. So for someone who would rather pay for labor than pay for the tools what woudl you reccomend?

If my motor ever blows... and it will... im gonna do the rebuild but i have never rebuilt a motor so i dont know whats all involved either. What at "specialty" tools do you need? I can get access to the shop up at the nissan dealership if they are little one time things or we can hit up autozone for the tools for free.

You really don't need alot of tools. Ratchet set, wrenches, torque wrench, screwdrivers, pliers, engine stand, feeler gauges...not much else. A 1/2" breaker bar with a 6" extension is nice to have for loosening stuff like head bolts.

You shouldn't worry about balancing pistons yourself. Just take pistons, head, crank, and block to a shop and have them done. Ring spreaders are only a couple bucks. Anything else you need you can pick up cheap or rent or check out from some place.
