.......and you'll save some money. I've just finished installing my rebuilt alternator and feel like I’ve saved lots of money. I initially decided to “take apart” my alternator just to see if all was well since I practically had the front end of the Q off and it was right there, easy to get to. Then I decided I’d take it to my buddy’s friend who rebuilds them and have him teach me how. Well he did help me out by explaining things as he went along, but he did most of the work. First we took it apart and changed the pulley bearing and another, bigger bearing inside as well as replaced the brushes. While testing the diodes we found one was bad and was most likely the cause of me having to replace the battery not to long ago. Then it was put back together and I installed it today. Cost? About $60 bucks rather then the cost of a new one. Consider the labor I saved on too…
Anyway, I’m finding that this trip into the bowels of my car is so much easier then the past trips. It’s like something just clicked and I knew how to do it without the frustration that was my first few overhauls. Much easier this time for sure. I have a rear spoiler to install and I have to drill holes in the trunk to install, so we’ll see how fun that’s going to be. The AC system will be completely assembled, hopefully on Tuesday. I’ve replaced allot of the system and can’t wait to get it all back together.
I’m still about a month away from putting the Q back on the road and maybe longer depending on what else I decide to do. It may be sooner as well because I miss driving it, but getting things done will make me feel so much better! I’m still toying with the 4:08 rear end, but have practically put that entire project on hold. Well gotta go.....
