Hi,

I think I ****ed up my engine and I was wondering what the pros and cons would be of getting another used one or rebuilding the one I have. I want a stock engine with about 10 psi of boost. I made a list, and I wonder what you guys think.

Rebuild

Pros

*I know what I have and I know that the engine will be "like new" after it's rebuilt*no shipping costs

Cons

*more expensive. I'd imagine a good rebuild would be at least $1,000. (If someone knows a cheap and reliable place near San Antonio, please let me know.)

Replace

Pros

* probably cheaper* I could sell the parts I don't need to help offset some of the costs or keep them as spares

Cons

I could end up just getting a new set of problems.

I'm leaning toward the rebuild, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

Thanks,

Darian

The best place to start is to tare it down and see what damage you have done. If need be send it to a machine shop to have them check for what was damaged. Bearings are cheap, but having everything mic'ed and installed can be a bit pricey. The biggest thing to look at is the crank. It may be fine. It may need a micro polishing. Or the journals may need to be turned down and undersized bearings installed. Repairing will probably be cheaper route.

better to fix your own mistakes than gamble on someone else's issues.

odds are it is cheaper or close to it.

$1000??? is that having some shop do the rebuild?

Thanks, I think it's better to go for a rebuild as well. I'll start a new thread.
