Todays compression test, 91 s13 rb20det t4/t3 13psi #1=130, #2=150, #3=135,#4=135,#5=130, #6=15 , #6 with oil=40, last weeks dyno 237hp at 6400, i figure i have some problems, i wanna go for 2.4 or 2.2 displacement upgrade but is it really worth it when an rb26 is right there but with all the other mods i would have to do, new mounts, driveshaft, an a new engine and transmission, or just a solid rebuild with some beef up internals and beefed up head head.zeropost?cmd=newtopic&id=135#, For the rebuild though the rings i'm having trouble finding if any one knows a good site for this would be a help

How much do you want to spend in all???I rebuilt my 20 and spent waayyy to much money.

Also going 2.2 or 2.4 is also big $$$ and scary.1. Cylinder walls- if you bore them out to 82mm from a stock 78mm thats 4mm= .156" overThe walls are pretty thin at that point. If you wipe the motor again, there will be no more rebuilding.

Custom pistons- JE raped me for about $1000 for a set .068" over with pins and ringsI've heard. emphasis on HEARD that 4agze pistons work. I know they are 82mm bore but that's all I know about it.

RB24 you need pistons 82mm as with the 2.2.But you will also need a 26 crank and need to clearance the block so it will fit.

Rods- dunno can't remember

Bearings- ???? guessing stock

Where are you losing compression??Do a leakdown test to find out EXACTLY where you are.

Could be HG, valves not sealing, rings, etc.....

Find out what it is first then go on.

Plus also dont forget the collar the crank!!!

I don't think his issue is with the valves leaking since his compression increased when he added oil to #6. I'm betting either a blown head gasket or toasted rings. If it is a head gasket, you might be able to just get away with replacing it with OEM depending on the condition of the block and head surfaces.

If you really want to rebuild it, overboring by 2mm will be huge. It effectively decreases 2mm of material between the cylinders. Like Sil240 said, if anything else happens and you score the cylinders, there's no machining in the world that will allow you to re-bore the cylinders a second time.

At this point, I would recommend taking it apart to see exactly what you're up against and then evaluate how much you want to spend. This is where the term "big boy money" becomes a reality.
