well this winter after school is over, im going to rebuild my ka-t. it has 120k+ motor is worn and im begin to see signs of low oil pressure/ coolent leak.

my goal after rebuild :450-500whp plan on running 20-25psi and meth.turbo is a t4 62-1 .68 (67lb/min wheel)

setup:arias 8.8:1 .20carillo rodschevelite bearingsarp main studsarp 11mm head studscometic head gasketknife edge polished crankbalanced assemblybore & hone/ hot tank blockams oil pumpams timing chaing

headport and polishbc 264 camdecked head

questions:worth it to oring the block?

i want to do the valve springs, retainers, lifters ect and over sized valves but thats another $1000 which i cant afford right now, so do you think the 264 with a port and polish will flow enough or am i going to need the bigger valves? i was reading that the ka exhaust ports are restrictive where the two ports meet and need to be opend up but only with over sized valves can you make use of the larger openings..

well any critism is welcomewish me luck..

A smaller turbo with no cams or head work usually makes 420-430 whp at 20 psi. So I'd say you're about to waste a good bit of money if you use larger valves. Especially since the intake will become a restriction.

I like your build right up to using larger valves. Keep the factory sizing and you'll be fine. If the guy doing the P&P on the head is worth a crap you won't need the larger valves to improve flow. Add 264 cams and 20+ psi and you'll be over 500WHP with a decent tune.

What are you using for a tune? Don't skimp...

tune is a toss up between mega squirt (hopefully v3. will be out) or an aem ems.

so bigger valves are a no.. thats what i was thinking im not building a all out race car. you think it would be safe to rev the stock valve springs to 7500? or should i look into replacing those?

any opinions about 0-ring the block?

i have the pistons and rods im ordering everything else for the bottom end next month.

i wish cams wernt so $$

I rev my stock valvetrain out to 7200. But keep in mind the KA without a fully counter-weighted crankshaft stops making power over 5500 really. IMO, If you run up to 6800 and shift, you'll still be in full boost and have no reason to rev higher on a street/strip car.

Brian Crower V2 cams aren't that bad, and don't require camgears or anything. I really like mine.

As for tuning, I'd suggest AEM EMS. You can order a plug-in unit and use pretty much every stock sensor.

yea im not getting a fully counterweighted crank..

the stock ka stops making power after 5500 b.c. the cam design it cannot flow enough air after 5500 rpms, hence the reason for a long duration bigger lift cam. my concern is the valve spring failing b.c. of added stress on the factory valve terrian
