Started a thread over in tech for some reason. See link below.zerothread?id=113890

abridged version.

Bought '95 de motor set w/ 160k miles. Good leak down and compression test.

Went to friend of a friend's performance shop. was quoted 'about $1000 to $1200' for gasket set/install, file fit rings, bearings, and head studs

Sent email saying I had gotten the money together, and wanted to be sure on the quote. He now says will be $2200. 15 hours for gasket install, 6 more for rings/bearings. this is all with me dropping off the block from the valves down. no removal or install.

Is paying a performance shop to do this (78.5 and hour) worth it?

Are the time lines correct. Far off from what he said originally.

Wanting to go Ka-t and I'd rather get this done before I install the engine.

Thanks for replies

hum ive never been into a ka befor but i have rebuilt many v-8 and 18 wheeler engines. i see no reason if they have a guy on it full time that he could not have it built in a 8 hour day if he knows what he is doing and not playing you for money. spec. if you have it already half broken down and out of the car.

check out flatlanderracing.com there rebuild kits seem fairly priced and you might make out with a better deal if you supply parts
