I get to fix my SR yay........

what happened?

This is what I THINK happened. pcv valve went bad wich that combined with the mini air filter I had on the T mad my crankcase unable to vent pressure. proof- dipstick hit eject a few times. anyways the oil pressure dropped way low so I stopped driving the car. Took stuff apart and found that nearly all my exhaust pieces were not torqued and my turbo had a mm of space between it and the bottom mount. this accounts for the horrible noise, hesitation, and its inability to build boost. On top of my stupidity to not re torque things during the initial swap I also came to find that my t25 had alot of shaft play and the lines were full of gunk and I managed to find pieces of gasket lodged in one of the banjo fittings. Looking at the front cover it seems as though my front main seal exploded. not literally but you get my drift. Truth is I have no idea how bad the damage is, and I dont know if the bottom end including cylinder walls was damaged. What I do know is that my misfortune is due mostly to me being an impatient kid with a new toy that couldn't take his time to do it right. anyways...

now that that's out of the way....

my parts list for the rebuild.

OEM oil pump/front cover w/ front main sealOEM water pumprear main sealnew head gasketarp head studsaem uego so I can finally monitor my ratiokyb struts- blown struts... all 4. bounce bouncewater neck adapter- clean way to have water temp sensorwalbro 255- still runnin the stocker SS turbo lines- I seem to have misplaced my hardlines...turbo elbow- 2 of the 3 studs are completely stripped from being torqued with an impact wrench and nuts with the wrong thread type. again I need to be exhaust gaskets- mine crumbled.fix ta turbo!!!

before I start purchasing and before I start my actual build thread I need some advice por favor

first- the t25. should I rebuild it? Has anyone here done it? or should I hold out for the s15 turbo?

second- the head gasket. I was going to go with cometic but people on here seem to think its junk. so now I'm thinking cosworth but just to clarify- my 86mm stock bore is OK with the 87mm cosworth gasket correct? also which thickness will keep me closest to oem spec compression?

third- Im hoping that the bottom end is still very healthy because I never heard a knock from down there. But should I strip it and the head to get them resurfaced anyway?

any imput from nico would be great, I have never really personally looked or worked on the mechanical pieces of a motor so I feel a little over whelmed.

no flame plz. just help

Hey man - Granted I can't help with a lot of stuff you have stated, but I will soon be in the same boat as soon as my S14 SR comes in the mail. I look to do the same replacements (engine) wise as you are, I.E. the rear main seal, head gasket, etc.

Where are you getting your parts and #'s? I would love to go through our parts thread, but god it seems to be all jumbled and thrown together. . .

Man that really sucks. I would def check everything, especially since you are going to have to take damn near everything apart anyway, it wouldn't hurt. Do it right this time around man.

I'm not really using part numbers for anything. I just google like hell to find good prices. Some stuff I will get from frsport other stuff I can find on ebay- not knock offs. basically it will be about 6 to 700 if I decide to just rebuild the t25. but if I wait and get a s15 turbo then It will cost 1500+

yea I plan on checking the cylinder walls for scratches markings or any indication of ring damage. I will also look to see if the pistons look bad and I will check the block and head with a straight edge but a straight edge will only show big warps right? I could still have low spots but not see them.

I would rather have the s15 but I want a new one and cheapest I have seen for a brand new s15 is 700. but to do an upgrade like that right you also need new SS lines, oil restrictor, clocking plates or know how to weld wich I dont, Its better to upgrade maf and injectors for the extra volume of air and in order to run it I need some sort of tune- probly enthalpy.

but to be honest- I just found a place in spokane wa that has rb25det motor, transmission, harness, ecu swaps for $1750 in house! they have front clips and full engine swaps sitting in their storage. so im contemplating selling my sr for the rb....

but yea I would still appriciate imput on the shoppi9ng list and the questions plz.

i love the rb25det but maintenece is expensive compared to the sr. that is the only reason why i still have sr because i daily drive it. but some people swap over s15 turbo without clocking plates and just file t25 ones to fit. but it is up to you bro it is what you wanna do. if you have the money go rb. but you already have a sr so it would be easier just to work on that.

very true. i will probly stick with the sr for now but having a rb on a stand for a year could be fun. k but still.... cosworth 87mm is ok with my stock 86 bore? and also, how will it affect the compression with or withought haveing them decked????
