Ok I have my engine ready to pull except the AC is still on. I'm pretty sure it ran out of freon as it wasn't working but I suppose the compressor might have crapped out. Is there any way for me to findout if there is freon in the system?Second while taking off the wire harness the runs the injectors i bent the **** out of the mounts for it that are spot welded to the fuel rail. I didn't really twist hard at all (just using a screw driver) and I have no idea what I'm going to do for reassambly. Any suggestions would be nice. Finally how important is a torque plate for boring and honing? How about just honing? This will probably be the deciding factor in whether I replace the pistons (with SOHC) or just the rings. Thanks in advance for any advice.

PS - its a KA24de if that helps

1) Check your H or L AC hoses for a relief valve, use the head of a nail and push down on the little pin, if theres freon it will vent out. Just make sure you are in ample ventilation before you do that.

2) Bend them back into place, or if they broke off, reweld them back on.

3) Torque plates will simulate load/stress on cylinders for precision boring and honing. I would recommend that you use them.

to drain my freon i decided to be very illegal so on a sunday morning i loosened the tubes on the compressor and walked away and let it all come out, this was at an industrial area with no one around and no cops to see :)

Haha quik, sometimes I think you say half the stuff you do just to piss people off. :) Funny though.

to get it properly done you should go to a place to get the ac drained. If it's sitting in the clip, you might do what quik did and vent it in an industrial area, or do what my friend did and vent it in another friends garage and run away while it's venting while leaving the garage door open and putting a fan at the opening for another hour or two. My rec would be to have it done the right way at a shop but if that's out of the question you could try using your DOHC compressor (disconnect it from your engine) and attach it to the sr while not disconnecting any of the AC lines and install the engine and attach the DOHC compressor via 3 bolts (the 4th one won't line up) although that might be a bit of a hassle.

critical imo...but some people decide to build without using tourqe plate...which isnt the 'right' way to do it.

oops sorry if I came off as pissed off to you Quik. Actually to see my friend vent into my other buddy's garage was pretty funny (aside from the environmental hazards and all) cuz the guy had a path cleared in the garage (with 2 motorcycles, mr2 rear clip, a 180 front clip, washer and dryer, and a bunch of other stuff) and had a wrench on the ac line. Then when he popped the line off, he ran like he was in a movie with explosions going off in the background running for daylight. Ha ha ha. Then my other buddy who's house it was was just standing there with his jaw gaping open and only after a minute did he ask "is that stuff dangerous?" ha ha ha.

Thanks for the replies, one more thing. Will I be able to bolt the engine to a stand with the clutch still on? How about with the flywheel on? If not should I remove it with the engine still in or while its on the hoist? Also can I get the chain hooks for the hoist from my local nissan shop? And where should I bolt the hooks on the engine (or at least whats the minimum size bolt)? Thanks again!
