Ok here is the situation, i have a sohc ka and i had the block bored and honed 40 over (it was recomended that it be done that much), block decked, crank polished, head job done, head decked, flywheel refinished. All machiningwas done at a very reputable shop.I got a full rebuild kit new oil pump, pistions, gaskets, everything.I assembled the block by what the chiltons manuel says for torque specs and everything, filling the oil pump, assembly lubed everything that needed it.

What i have done to the engine is that i have removed all of the egr stuff, put on an obx header, removed mechanical fan for elecrics, and disconected the butterflys on the intake, and installed and oil catch can.

the problemsa none constant idile( probably due to the butterflys)i get oil preasureat start up and then it goes low to no oil preasure, and it does not increase as the revs dothe headers glows with just 2000 rpmthe head ticks alot

The timing is set at 20 degrees and the engine has not been run for more that 3 minutes at a time and the revs have not gone passed 3000 rpm. I guess what i am asking is if any one has experienced this or has any suggestions on what to do.

Have you re-checked your timing chain timing because if your header is glowing red and it sounds like you have detonation occuring (BAD NEWS.) Please re-up a list of what you have and haven't tried.

i am going to be taking the engine out of the car tomarrow and i am going to pull an all nighter and pull it apart and put it back together. We will see what we find

All that we tried to do was let it run and time it and it was getting dark and the header was starting to glow so we cut it off.

I agree with checking the cam timing, I would do that before you pull the motor apart.

How am i able to check the cam timing with the front cover on? I didn't think that the brass marks on the chain would line up. I am very very sure that the marks on the chain were on the dimples on the cam and crank gear. If there is a way to check it let me know because tomarrow is the removal day. Thanks alot i appreciate it.

but you know what i still have the oil psi problem and the ticking head so i think that it would be best if it came apart. I think that i would be able to sleep a little better if i knew that it was all apart and everything looked over again.

I would like to know what you end up finding. The oil pressure sending unit may not be working consistently, they are bad about that. Timing could be off but headers will radiate heat more than a stock manifold and since the metal is thinner especially at night will glow.

ok i took the engine down the bottom end and left the pistons in. Everything looked fine, there was a little bit of carbon in the cylinders (probably from the assembly lube and the rings setting?) Does anyone know why the head gasket has all the coolent orts open on the #4 cylinder and then only two holes on the rest? Learned alot about the head by taking the spare one apar and i am in the process of trying to bleed them. I re timed the cam and the crank. I have yet to stab the oil pump and distributer. I had a lot of partical sized metal dust but i was told this is normal for an engine when it is new.Is there anything iam going to have to do with the motor since i have rased the compression a little by having it bored and decked?
