Hey guys, started finally stripping down my spare motor, to get ready to hopefully completely build up.

I'm trying to start a list of what i'll need.. so far i have :

Forged Pistons (CP)RodsFull Gasket Kit. (ACL)Metal Head Gasket Water PumpOil PumpSeals ( or should they come in the gasket kit?)Head Studs ( ARP RB25 or CA kit if i can source it)Gates Racing Timing Belt.

What else will i require ? Will i need to replace the exhaust manifold studs ? also will i need to purchase new flywheel bolts, or will my old ones suffice ?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Pete

Pete, if your flywheel bolts are not rounded off, they should be just fine. Change all your journal bearings, get the head reconditioned, and no you don't need to change your manifold studs if they are not broken or stripped. Also, make sure the block gets some professional attention as well. Everything else on your list looks just fine.

Thank you very much Dee, i was hoping you'd help out.

Flywheel bolts are straight as, i took them off the motor, apparantly they had never been touched before, so who knows.

Journel bearings? as in for the cams ?

Plan on getting the block and head skimmed for the new head gasket, it's been done before on the head, but yeah, best to keep it flat as possible.

Thanks so much for the info

My reference to journal bearings usually means the lower journal which is all the crank bearings to include both rods and mains. If you're going to get your block decked again, be sure and check standard piston height clearance because if it's done too much, your pistons will be sticking their heads just above the top of your deck.

Okay. Well what i planned on doing was taking the head, block, and the engine part of the manual down to the machinsts and saying work it out. I guess they won't need the pistons and crank in to measure it ?

Also.. totally n00bish question. I'm wanting around 300-320rwhp. Would i need Rods ? Or can i smash forged pistons on top of the standard legs and still be safe ? i don't plan on banging limi heaps, and i'm not chasing massive power.

Just after a fresh engine that'll handle enough to chop a few
