It depends on how much damage is done to the motor...if its minimal than I'd say rebuild

Well lets say your crank needs work and you new rod. There is 300. Bearings and head gasket and oil pump another 2-300. So for 5-600 you would have a pretty sound motor again ....buy one used, for 6-800 and not know if its gonna last.but no down Time. Unless you don't know how to rebuild a motor than add the 1000 labor for a shop to do it.

But it wont rebalance itself... I'd re ring, main bearings, rod bearing, crank polished, head gasket and timing belt at a minimum. I dunno I'd say closer to 1500 with the balance and polishing / clearance work.

What ever you do I'd make sure that the motor your getting wasn't shipped to the states. Recently ...lol.also I'd tear down the motor you have now and check to see if the crank is still good ...that alone will tell you how much its gonna run you. I just built my buddies motor that had a bad rod bearing and he is 2200 bucks into it and that's with race bearings forged pistons and eagle rods and that includes the crank he bought from me. As far as your horsepower goal, a t28 mild cams different maf, 50lbs inj and a chipped ec should do it.
