Visit Turbo240.comThey have great rebuild kits for decent prices. I'd say get the basic rebuild kit, along with the oil pump they have, also arp head and main studs. should only run you $1400. The rebuild kit comes with all engine gaskets/seals, 8.8:1 pistons(your choice of stock or .020 over), rods, main and rod bearings. Everything is quality and has been tested tough time and time again. I'd also pick up an oem timing kit. You can pick one up for 150-300ish depending where you go online. That setup will cost half the amount of an SR swap, 1/3 of an RB, and allow you to run the numbers you want with reliability. You can really pump those numbers out of a stock engine, but if you do a small uprgrade those number won't only be a little easier to get to but your engine will take it like a champ and keep giving. You'll also have room for improvement. Those internals will take another 200whp over your goals if you ever wanted to push things further. Those are all the parts i'm using in my current rebuild, plus a load of head work and cams. I'll be spending about the amount of an sr swap, but the fact that i can run with stock sr's before the rebuild with no turbo, after the rebuild still having no turbo i expect low 14's after a good tune. I do however have extensive weight reductions, weighing in around 2350ish. I'm still debating wheather I want to go cheap and run a 150 shot of gas or if i want to spend another 2 grand on a turbo set up... I'm leaning more towards turbo. GL with whatever you choose to do. RB's are great swaps, but getting parts if things break is a little harder than just running down to an autozone. Both swaps+mods are gonna cost about the same to get to the 400whp range. To get the ka there reliably, you'll save a grand or so if not more, especially if you can pick up slightly used parts. Figure if you do an engine swap the engine is going to be used, so if you put slightly used quality rebuild parts in hte ka, it's not much different...like when someone is parting out their rebuilt ka because they are going for a different set-up. 240's have way to many options for advancement that it makes people go crazy sometimes trying to figure out what they are going to do to it. I remember back in the day, people mainly just did sr swaps....then came rb's and soon after people started taking a look at turbocharging the stock truck engines nissan puts in, then comes n/a builds for the ka's, and LS1's...the swaps have gotten even crazier...I mean some people just have 6 or 8 cyl enignes just laying around from random cars and are like...hmmm i think i'll rebuild this and put it in my 240. It's such a great platform, theres room for so many different engines and it's a pretty light car. It's so much nicer than trying to squeeze a freaking 4 cyl(still just another 4 cyl) into a civic or crx that just barely fits even moving back the firewall and cutting the engine bay up...
240 ftw!
