Ok, so I'm rebuilding my KA and I plan on going KA-T somtime in the next year. I'm looking to make around 250-300 RWHP I just wanted to run my list of parts for my rebuild by everyone and see if I'm forgetting anything.

I would go ahead and get rods they have become somewhat cheap if you can afford all that the extra 330 bucks for eagle rods would be good investment.

But no the list looks good man good luck

I have a quick drivability question. If I go with the arias 8.7:1 pistons, how noticable will the drop in power be while the car is N/A.

Depending on the age of your motor and how worn it is, 0. There's a good chance you'll be making more power with a valve job anyways,

So your saying it's not going to be noticable.

That's what I'm saying.

New timing kit, a valve job, and a generally healthier motor... you'll be more likely to see more power. Plus with lower compression pistons, you can advance the timing a bit and make some extra power till you go turbo.

Well... hold on now...Power isn't all a matter of peak numbers. I suppose it's possible your peak numbers would stay the same but as far as drivability goes you won't be beating the same cars you raced before. Torque would drop forsure.

So everything you love about your 240 now would be gone with those new pistons.

As far as answering the Original post though... get the rods man. It'll give you convidence and room for error that the stock rods will not . No error would be good obviously but I can't imagine busting open a PC and rebuilding everything and leaving the same old RAM in it... get the rods.

I had a motor with lower comp. pistons - and slight bigger cams admittedly - but my 'butt dyno' said my car was more powerful after the rebuild then before. I can't imagine the cams making that big of a difference with no ECU mods.

I can't forsee him seeing that big of difference from dropping in lower comp pistons to the point where 'everything you love about your 240 now would be gone'.

And it's a proven fact that the weakness of a KA is in the piston and not the rod. $300 bucks saved from Eagle Rods can now be spent on a better tune. A better tune will be better then after market rods for ~300rwhp.
