my 91 s13 is in the shop right now, getting an engine rebuild. i am trading my 96 maz 626 for the job. i called 15 shops (no BS) before i got someone to do my deal. this guy specializes in doing JDM swaps. and typical engine rebuilds. my mazda was a turd. the interior and exterior was crap but it was very nice mechanicaly. it had 86k miles and a rebuilt auto trany. was it worth it?

..maybe. A 3 second KBB lookup reveals the basest of base 626s rated as Fair with 86k miles is worth around 2.4k. A rebuild costs maybe around 500-700 for parts, and 1500+ for the labor of removing the engine, rebuilding, reinstalling it. Warrenty helps too. So, sounds close. Chances are a 240 with a rebuilt and maintained engine will last quite awhile, baring a transmission failure. If you were planning on dumping the Mazda anyway, I'd say yeah, not a bad deal. Saved time if nothing else.

Id say it was a good deal. You are getting rid of a car you dont want and getting back your s13 wtih a rebuilt motor. I would have done that if i had a car to give away.

ITS FINALLY OUT OF THE SHOP!!!!!:D :ylsuper  :) I AM SOO F***ING HAPPY! IT WAS A LONG WAIT. man i didn't think i was ever going to get it back. the engine rebuild went ok but some other parts were bad. which caused most of the delay. when the shop got it back and running it came down with a bad missfire. so the shop had to send it to another mechanich to sort it out. the injectors were exteremly dirty and thet had to clean them out with some new type of seafoam style cleaner. and they did the typical seafoam treatment. those guys were doing seafoams all day long to other cars. anyway i got a new clutch, right side motor mount, and some cool silicone plug wires. so in the end it all cost 1930 bucks. 1500 for the turd and 430 for the extra parts and service.
