Well my KA is dying...the doc gives her about 40-50 thousand more miles of oil burning backfiring pleasure. So, what do I do?

1. Rebuild all motor with new camshafts, gears, valve job, port polish etc. a.Cheapest way I know, probably about 2.5-3k but I don't think it'll make much power.

2. Rebuild and turbocharge/supercharge a. More power but more money. How reliable is a rebuilt KA with forced induction, who makes decent kits for the KA

3. SR20DET swap a. How hard is it to find replacement parts in a short amount of time. Such as having to replace a starter, alternator, cracked head so forth and so on. Also how cost effiective and reliable will an sr20 be?

Just point me in the right direction!

Like most people I'm looking for the most "bang for the buck", and wouldn't like to spend more than 5 or 6k...less is always better.

Rebuild and Turbo. The KA is stout, plentiful, and all that displacement makes for some happy spoolin' :)

Do a stock rebulid + jwt cams + good stiff cluch flywheel + then brake in the motor be kinda EZ on it then turbo puts you about 250whp and you can drive it everyday

Cheaper way

Find a junkyard Ka for about 5-600 bucks with about 50-60k then put a good stiff cluch and light flywheel with some JWT cams then turbo stuff thers about 4-5k and puts you in the 250whp zone

I would rebuild the KA- do all the internal (Performane) replacement. You will defianlty get more power. Then you will have a setup ready to go if you go with a turbo.

He only need a full turbo rebulid if he wants to go crazy with power 350whp+ but he he only wants say 330whp and down he could just slap a newer ka in and turbo that

yes rebuild + turbo kit. Get the Greddy turbo kit. It'll be CARB legal in 4-6 months. I called in. But if you can't wait that long. then just rebuild for now and wait for it.
