I had a mechanic to mine, mainly because I don't have access to a press that will remove the old and install the new. Ask the mechanic if he's got a press to do it with. I know some crappy garages will use a vise and a big socket and rig it. Or just take the removed TC rod and new bushings to a machine shop that has a press, then toss it in there yourself.

I had them do the whole job, so it was like only 1 hr. labor, nothing on parts since I brought them in myself.

I knew this mechanic personally, so he allowed me to bring in my own parts. FYI, most mechanics don't let you do that for two reasons: One, they don't want the headache of you trying to get warrenty claims for parts they didn't supply in case they fail, and you come cussing at them; and two, they want to charge you the mark-up on the price of the parts. Which is usually 40-60% above what they pay for it.

When I noticed mine were cracked, I called the dealer and ordered new tension arms, they said for just a bit more I could get the whole thing so thats what i chose. Then I installed them myself, quite easy; 2 nuts on one end and a long bolt on the "head" none were really that tight but they do need to be torqued or just give it a bunch of muscle and you'll be fine. What a difference in the ride and no more hard thumping when i enter my driveway:ylsuper

New tension rods = new rods with the bushing and the two studs that poke out the end of the rod.

Procedure for installing new bushing into tension rodpull out your tension rodssend them to a machinist who will do the followingtake them to a press and press out the old bushingsunpack the new bushings and grease em uppress in the new bushings into the tension rodsgrease up the metal inner partpress inner metal tube into the polyurethane section

or if you get the pillowball tension rods, you've got to adjust the length to match your old rods and then install the brand new units and toss or sell your old tension rods.

My whiteline tension rod bushings cost 20 bucks to get pressed in. Half an hour work for my local machinist because I told him "I need to get my car on the road today dude, I've got a hot date tonight"

Sorry/// The bushings were cracked so instead of buying the bushings and finding someone to pres them out, then the new ones in, i chose to buy the whole arm/rod complete for just a few bucks more eliminating time and extra work, they were very easy to install. Total dealer price was 65 bucks per.
