202-4702 - UK CA18DET Head Stud Kit202-4302 - US/JDM CA18DE Head Stud KitHead Studs - Tightening Procedure;Torque in THREE stages: 30 ft-lbs, then 55 ft-lbs, then 80 ft-lbs (using their moly grease).loosen and retorque THREE MORE times!heat cycle the studs (start and run to NOT).let the engine cool down thoroughlycheck torque on studs and tighten as necessary

^ From the stickies for ARP head studs. I have the right set 202-4302 that FRSport and most other companies say doesn't exist..

Now, i did the three stages from 30-80 ft-lbs w/ their grease. My question is, is the loosen/retorque "three more times" needed? Is it ok to use this process on OEM head gaskets, or is it just for those who are using MLS HG's?

Cheers!

The short answer is yes. You need to tighten in those stages, and loosen (in at least 2 stages), at least three times.

The reason is that it polishes the threads of the ARP studs and gives a more accurate TQ.

It's necessary regardless of the head gasket you use.
