rearend on a 240

i just changed my oil and felt the rearend, & its rather hot,, too hot to hold my hand on for very long.

i found a pic of the part i am talking about on the internet

is that normal or should i check something out.

Hope you're not talking about the exhaust, wondering if it's supposed to be hot. :D

Anyways, I think you're talking about the differential, the big round thing that the driveshaft does into. And yeah it's normal for it to get hot, there's friction inside there even with the oil, friction = heat last time I checked.

what th hell is that cannister thats braketed to the exaust beside the diff on the drivers side?

Neither. It's just a rubber stopper of sorts attached to the exhaust for some unknown reason. It's on my friend's 95 and it doesn't have an lines running to/from it all, whether they be hydraulic or electrical. If someone knows for a fact what is is/does. Please let me know! :confused:

It does do SOMETHING, just not a very important something.

It is a rubber "chunk" that is added to reduce or cancel out certain vibration frequencies. Q45 has them....

hmm, and i allways guessed it was for the spare tire to hit...and it was just moved inside the trunk and left there.

agreed.but it still does nothing! :ylsuper

Just cut it of and save 8 oz.

Dont listen to them they dont know what they are talking about.. That rubber piece is where the extra muffler bearings are stored.
