Has anyone had the rear wiper just crap out on them? I just bought my QX4 today and the rear wiper is stuck half way up the rear window.

I've checked the fuses under the dash and none are blown. Just curious if this happens alot with the 98 QX4's.

never heard of this issue on qx4's, but I did help a cousin out with his Izuzu Rodeo, ended up being both the relay that crapped out and a ceased up motor that needed to be greased

It probably just needs to be cleaned up. Just take apart your back. Two screws on the handle and a bunch of clips.

remove the arm from the motor and see if the motor moves freely. If yes, then you should notice that the inside linkage arm attached to the wiper is stiff. you will have to work in some lubricant from the outside. It's better to take off the outside wiper arm and work the lubricant around the rubber washer.

That should do it. Proper occasional maintenance will keep you wiper motor from breaking.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Damon

I took everything apart and sure enough it was just the arm that need some lube and some coaxing to get it to start moving again

Hey I have the same problem what kind of lubrication did you put on it to get it moving smoothly again?

WD40 is all I used but the damn thing is acting up again. Starting to think it might be the motor.

Yea, I passed a 2001-2003 QX4 today and the rear wiper was stuck. My wiper works, but it makes a grinding noise from being strained with using it to wipe snow off the window. O well

WD-40 is a water displacer, not a lubricant (for mechanical parts). You need to actually put some general purpose (lithium-based) grease on the shaft and try to work in into that space between the actual shaft and the sleeve.
