I tried using the rear windshield spray last night but no liquid was released. the wiper moved though. The front windshield spray works. It has been pretty cold here in NYC. Could the rear spray froze over? Thanks

Yes, it can freeze over, especially in the cold climates we've been experiencing. I find that going to the car wash will cause cold water to freeze in the nozzle. This mostly affects the back nozzle for some reason. So I try to remember to release some fluid right after I get out of the car wash but I usually forget.

When was the last time you used it?After a while not used, the liquid evaporates or dries out (it is alcohol based), and since it is a long way to the back of the car, it can take some time for the liquid to go out again.Try again for some time and listen if you can hear the electric motor pushing the liquid out. Also, if you washer liquid level is low, it will be the first one to not get fluid, before the front ones.

I actually had the same problem occur to me. The front worked normally but I couldn't get a drop of liquid in the rear even though the wipers were going. I could hear the motor going and I thought I was out of the washer fluid, but that wasn't the case because I filled it up a few days ago.

What I did was shutting off my car and then turned it back on and the problem was gone. Try to see if that works for you.

Yep! It's actually a fairly common occurrence every winter and it affects many different makes and models of cars.. not just the Rogue. In every case the problem is the same. The fluid in the line to the rear wiper is freezing.

Some auto makers like GM actually install pre heated washer systems to counteract the problem.

However... the easiest solution (albeit controversial) is to use an alcohol based washer fluid available at most auto parts stores.

Available at Costco: (good to -40 degrees!)

The controversy is over the pollution factor (i.e., millions of gallons of alcohol water being sprayed into the air every year.)

If you don't want to spend the money buy a gallon of doctored water... you can always make your own:

Ingredients:3 cups Isopropyl alcohol1 tablespoon Liquid detergent (Dawn works great) 10 cups Water

Directions:1. Pour alcohol and detergent into a clean gallon size plastic jug (i.e. old milk carton). Add water, cover, and shake well. Label accordingly.

2. Shake well to mix ingredients. Pour into your car's windshield-washer compartment.

NOTE: Some people add several drops of blue food coloring to the mix. This helps identify the fluid as windsheild washer fluid in the event you forget to label it.

Another formula variation (one of many) is3 cups Rubbing alcohol2 Teaspoon Liquid detergent (like Dawn) 4 cups Water
