I was wondering my dads old 88 Hardbody 4x4 had the sliding rear window and I thought that it was perfect for summer days when you have no ac.

So Can you swap a sliding rear window for the solid rear window? If so how hard would it be?

Sliding rear glass makes all the difference on a hot day, the airflow is nice. If there is any debris in the bed, it could even get pulled into the cab by the stream of air. I remember this happened to me and my brother after getting some firewood, right at 50mph a s***load of bark and dirt came flying through the window. The little latch that holds it closed is likely gone already, so don't try to lock up a bunch of gold, silver, platinum, nuclear weapons, expensive stereos, etc, in the truck. It should be a drop in fit.

Oh yes...The fond memorys of hay flying into the truck going down the highway...

Nah the only expensive thing is going to be the seats I'm getting from Kevin and a P.o.s cd player I just don't wanna replace my ac system so.. If any of you need ac parts *except the compressor* All you have to pay is shipping.

I wonder If Kevin has a Sliding rear glass...

I love mine on cool days roll the windows down slide the back open and air out the truck. It should be direct swap google window replacement they have some good tips on how to and use the string method to pop the molding in and out it makes all the difference. Google it and it is pretty straight forward if you have never done one before.

I watched the guy from Binswanger glass swap mine out on my old Hardbody in about five minutes. Even though it was free, I still felt guilty for not getting a replacement for my broken one from a junk yard and putting it in myself. It really looked that easy!

Sadly, my Frontier appears to use a glue-in style glass, so replacing my "picture window" with a slider would be more difficult. I actually like the increased visibility with the rear view mirror, and I am an A/C whore, so I never used my old one for much other than if I needed to haul something longer than the bed, like closet shelving.

I think they did. The 720 on the cover of the Haynes manual has a sunroof if I remember correctly. You can get sunroof kits, too. Personally, I don't feel constrained enough in the cab to need a sunroof.

That's cool but why would a truck need a sunroof? Oh and I might have found a sliding rear window for 190 bucks but the latch is missing

Same reason any vehicle needs one choice of owner. In nice weather pop it out and let the air in and sun. Why would you NEED t tops or convertible? Just a choice. I wished mine had T Tops on a cool sunny day in my old Z the tops off windows down and a set of tunes and a ride in the country, nothing better other than same thing on a sport bike LOL

Sounds way overpriced. Check out http://www.car-part.com - there are a lot of them for $45 to $60. If you're ever in Winston - Salem or Charlotte it might be worth checking out http://www.pullapart.com

I prefer the newer once peice slider design vs. the earlier "french doors" since you loose the line right in the middle of your rear view mirror line of sight that way. My '97 came with the newer design, but the aftermarket replacement was based on the older design and that always annoyed me.

Get a split back window at a junkyard for much less or check local bulletin board car trader mags many part out their own wrecks or blown up vehicles.
