I am wondering is there any way to replace just the rear window without having to take off the whole roof and if anyone here has done it before? I dont want to have to ghetto rig it with tape. It looks like the rear window is stitched onto another piece of material. and another material stitched on top? I am quite good with 240s but have no experience with upholstery. If anyone has done it or knows the difficulty level any response would be greatly appreciated

The top on the 240 is a 2-piece top. The rear window is stiched to canvas that is separate from the rest of the top. If you just do a little research on your top (google for a new one) you will find that you can replace just the rear window portion, but it is not reccommended to do more than once without replacing the whole top. What you cannot do is just replace the plastic, leaving the canvas. It doesn't work that way. Look into it, but I would get a whole new top. I know some people on here have replaced just the back window portion though.

S13_Convert nailed it on the dot.

I personally just took mine to an upholstery shop to get it replaced. Not the best install, but it gets the job done. It's a temporary solution until I get a new top.

Not dumb at all. -10 Celsius is 14 Fahrenheit... I'd like to know too. It's 40s(F) at night here, and it's freaking cold.

The coldest temperature I put my top down was around 50-55. I had the heater blasting so it wasn't too bad haha

I HAVE to store mine with the top down, and the same thing happened to me about a year ago.

Why?

I'm not a homeowner, but a renter. My property includes a garage, but the garage does NOT have a door (perhaps "3-sided car port" would be more accurate). Since I don't have a door, the neighborhood cats have access to my 'vert on their nocturnal prowls.

Cats LOVE To perch on canvas tops. I got a new top (almost) 2 years ago and I'd had it 2 DAYS when I noticed my GF's cat perched on top. He weighs almost 20 lbs., and after I shooed him away I noticed a definite bow in one of the metal braces that run side-to-side inside the top assembly (canvas remained "unclawed").

I have since split from that GF.

I ordered one of those car cover things that just covers the cockpit when the top is down, and that's how I store it: top down, inside 3-sided garage, cockpit covered. The cover works pretty well, and even works in the rain (out of the garage) if it's not too windy (I've posted pics on the site of the "cockpit cover" that show how it works). The material will stop water, but if it's storming water will blow in where to cover gets blown open. The cover cost me about $80, and if the cat's shred that it's a LOT cheaper to replace the cover than the top. The top had been replaced because of vandalism. Insurance would ONLY pay for top, not window. So I had a new top with a 15-year-old window. I've since moved to a MUCH nicer neighborhood.

I have a company car, so it's feasible for me to not drive my 'vert for weeks at a time--expecially this time of year. However, I had a freelance job about a year ago that I could NOT take my company car to. It was about 16 degrees F when I put the top up, and BAM! I thought I'd been shot! The rear window split totally from side-to-side in about 4 places! I grabbed a thicker hat and went on my way. Later I "fixed" it--sorta--with clear strapping tape. Quite a lot of clear strapping tape. Finally got the window replaced in June. Parts & Labor: $400.

Sorry, didn't mean to write a novel.

Haha!!You should have used one of these. This thing actually works. Cats are common problem for vert owners.

Another thing worth mentioning is when you get your rear window replaced, be sure to invest in a plastic cleaner such as Plexus or Zaino. Apply it to your window every now and then to keep it clean.

Not to mention, if you get a new window, please, do whatever you can to store your car, even overnight, with the top UP. It is very bad for your top and especially window to be down longer than 12 hours. The whole reason the 240 cannot have a glass window is because the window is a folding point. It needs to be up to keep its shape.

Thanks for the tip! Just bought the critter repellant (the BIG size). I looked for something like this in my local pet stores and I found something to spray on the ground, but it didn't work too well (had to respray every 2 days). Tried it on the top, and that seemed to work, except my top smelled kinda "funny." I hope this works better.

Had the Plexus in hand 2 days before I got the top installed.

Thanks for the tips ever ybody.

I like to use my paintball gun. On a side note every few days I would go voer to this girl's house. Her parents love me and usually end up talking for a while in the driveway with her parents. Well it was the first time I had the top down....One of the family cats that was always on my car when I left, jumps on my hood. Then proceeds up my windshield, up to my top..wait the top is down.. *smack* cat does a flip and lands upside down, surprised the shifter didn't break it's back.... I couldn't stop laughing for 5minutes.
