The motor in the passenger-side rear window of my J30 has died. I went to a local autoparts store to pick up a replacement and was told that the only window motors they could order were for the two front windows and that the rear windows used a different motor. Does anyone know if this is true, or if I can use a front window motor in the rear window? If I can't, does anyone know where I might be able to find a rear window motor? I've searched online, but keep finding only front driver's side and front passenger side motors. I did find this one: http://www.autopartswarehouse.....html

It claims to work on both the front and rear passenger-side doors, but after what I was told at the autoparts store, I was hoping that maybe someone could confirm this.

Thanks in advance for any light you're able to shine on this.

I'd go junk yard hunting. Shouldn't be too hard to find and MUCH cheaper than getting a new one.

That's not a bad idea. There's a pull-a-part location about half an hour from me, and they have three J30s on site. Maybe I'll check it out Saturday morning.

Plus, if you haven't ever done one before, it's better to learn while you take the junked car apart so you can then see how it all works before you tear into your baby.

Yea, it was good to get a look at the inside of the J30 before I took my own apart.

I went last Saturday and pulled the window motor and then installed it in my J30. It works like a charm. Now all four windows are working and so is the sunroof. (I had to adjust the torque on the sunroof motor a couple of weekends ago, and now it works great.) I'm in pretty good shape.

Thanks again for the help.

Which method did you use to adjust the sunroof motor? How hard was it and how long did it take?

I love going to pull-a-part. I live about 30 minutes from the one in Birmingham. Last time I went my Dad went with me and we spent 3 or 4 hours just goofing off looking at all the Nissans and Infinitis. I have signed up so they will send me email alerts when ever they get in a J30 or a 300zx.

Yep, that's the how-to thread I used. I found the sunroof adjustment to be quite easy, but I consider myself halfway mechanically-inclined. It didn't take me long. The hardest part of the job was snapping off the screws connecting the motor to the car without stripping them.

How do you gain access to the sunroof motor? It seems like I read someones DIY before and they pulled down the entire head liner. That's the reason I haven't adjusted mine before now.

Yea, you don't need to take off the headliner. Just pop out the sunroof controls and the motor is right there.
