Howdy!

I noticed water dripping around the third brake light on the hatch window. I read that you can apply some silicone grease around the seal to help; however, I still have some questions:

1) Has anyone tried this method before and, if so, what type of grease did you use?
2) If you have experienced this issue, how did you resolve it?

Cheers,
Andrew

Sil-Glyde is what you are looking for. It's just a silicone grease in a tube. Just rub a little into all of your rubber door and hatch seals and it will help them seal a little better.

I haven't experienced the issue but I've used Sil-Glyde on my vehicle weather seals for years to help keep them in good shape.

You will also want to make sure they are clean and dry before adding the grease. A tiny amount of dish liquid in about a gallon of water should get them clean if you wipe them down with a rag. Then rinse them thoroughly and let them air dry or wipe them dry. Turtle Wax or some similar spray detailer can work pretty well too. I had to do this with my 99.5 Pathfinder which leaked like crazy in the rear.

Ensuring that all of the "gutter" seals are clean can help keep water out of the doors too. If crud gets lodged in there then water cannot flow around the door/hatch and down to the drains, and will try to work its way between the seals just from gravity.

I park under a faux pear tree that sits in my yard, which is coming down very soon, and am constantly cleaning the little berry like fruit out of every spot on my Pathfinder they can possibly lodge. They are nasty things that will ruin the paint if left on the vehicle. They also deposit seeds as they decay making cleaning even worse. Keeping those seals clean keeps the water out.
