okay, I'm swapping out my rear hub because I rounded out one of the holes where the stud goes in (*sigh* Greg, you're right )...anyways, I picked up a 4 lug hub for like 5 bucks, but its the whole assembly (hub /w bearing and the other thingy attached to the other side of hub).

my questions:

1) what tools do I need?2) are air tools necessary?3) how do I do it? like whats the steps?

IIRC you'll need a bearing remover and that's about it special tools wise...

You'll kick things off by1. Taking off the wheel bearing lock nut2. Take off the brake caliper and rotor3. Tap the wheel bearing lock nut LIGHTLY!!!! to seperate the axle housing from the driveshaft4. take off the axle housing5. Take the wheel hub out of the axle housing.

Here is a pic of the disassembly:

At least if I understand what you're asking correctly. Took some Vicoden so I'm kinda tipsy.

plus that 30 something mm bolt in the middle too right?

anyways, about the removal... I dont need like a special tool right? I mean, cuz I'm imagining it to be like removing the steering wheel, but I used a steering wheel puller, cuz it was too tight for my skinny asss to pull.

Resurecting this because I saw Adrian online. Adrian, I cannot for the life of me get that damn 36mm wheel bearing lock nut off. What did you use to do it?

Well, too little too late, I read that you need to take that nut off first before disassembling your brakes, so you can leave your e-brake engaged.

Idiot me, I took everything I could apart already, I have a 30" breaker bar and I'm torquing it so much that, even though the transmission is in 1st, I'm skidding the other rear tire that's still on the ground.

maybe im lazy, maybe im resourceful, but it seems to me that you could have saved yourself a lot of time and effort to just put in a new stud with a bigger knurl. dorman makes my lug studs (the ones i sell), a stock bolt is nuber 610-320, has a knurl diameter of 12.83mm; after some research, dorman number 610-375 is the exact same pitch, length, and shoulder, but with a knurl of 14.25mm. auger the hole out enough to pound it through, and bingo, done.

Holy threadjack, Batman -- sorry Adrian but I'm whoring your thread. I got the axle nut off with an impact wrench. Still no luck with the bottom two 19mm hub bolts, though. Soaked them in WD40, CRC -- applied impact wrench at 140psi. Nothing. They won't f*cking budge. Grrr. The kids in my neighborhood are starting to have questions like "Mommy? What's a 'c*nt'?"

wedge the hub with a long prybar on 2 studs to the ground. then get your socket and breaker bar then add a 4ft 4inch pipe to extend the breaker bar. yank away

good call, if i hit a bolt that the impact wont budge, the breaker bar with a jack handle is the first thing i go for.

Strangely, the impact wrench took the axle nut off no sweat, and I got the two other hub bolts off with the breaker bar.

This car's suspension is held together by pure spite, I'm quite certain of that.
