My hub's knurls/splines were stripped where the wheel studs are pressed in the holes. Is is safe to weld the studs to the hub? I am hesitant to remove the rear wheel hub because I wouldn't want to replace the good bearing if it messes up and comes off with the hub;Only the hub. It's the first time I'll attempt this. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

I would replace the stub axle before I welded wheel studs on, wheel studs break and need replaced periodically. I'm not sure how you managed to bugger the hub, either the stud goes in or it doesn't, you sure you used the right studs?

What happened was that I bought cheap studs at a local store I'd rather not mention. I pressed the studs in properly and made sure twice. When I put the wheel back on, I started to tighten the lugs; but then two of the lugs started spinning with the studs  The studs I had removed from my car were original ones and my hubs still had the knurls/splines to press the new studs in. So, my guess is that the cheap studs were made of inferior metal. Plus, all the spinning of the studs with the lugs stripped the knurls/splines even more. It was a "B!+¢# to remove the wheel;however, I'd rather not elaborate on that as things got really bad. Moral of this unfortunate long a$$ story  is to PREFFERABLY buy OEM studs!!!! Yet, my question remains?

And yes, the new studs I put in were correct ones for the rear. I'm aware of the difference between the front and rears.

Press the old studs out with a clamp of some sort. These could be a loaner tool at your local parts store, so ask or call them. Use a spacer of some sort (like a stack of washers or an old socket) and a nut to draw in the new ones. Don't use that nut as a lug nut for your wheels as it may have stretched threads when you're all done. Check for videos online and try to avoid using a hammer to knock out the old studs.

awesome, i used to work at my local autozone so ill ask them about a clamp i could use. I looked at videos and i seemed simple enough. my only concern was that none of the videos showed the process for the rear hub, and idk how different that is since it doesn't rotate like the front wheels do cuz of steering.

Thank you for the welcome tho!

I'm not sure. I imagine the front steering rotation could be annoying during this work and having the rear not moving around could be easier. I think the potential issue is finding a spot deep enough in the knuckle area to allow the studs to pass out the back of the hub plate. Anyway, let us know how it goes.
