Has anyone dyno tested the rear wheel hp of a stock Q70 3.7L? I had mine on the shop today but it was tested and tuned after cold air intake install and tuning and was pushing 295. Since I didn't test it beforehand (which I should have done in hindsight), I'm curious what the improvement might be. Typical 20% loss from factory advertised hp at flywheel would suggest original rear whp of about 265 meaning the intake/tuning added about 30. Trying to get a sense of how accurate this might be. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to rain on your parade but there is no way you got 30hp from a CAI. My guess is more like 9-10 (that's with the tune). Without a tune, your changes would be even smaller.

Actually it's possible since the stock rev limiter/speed governor will keep the car from reaching peak HP. Most folks raise the limiters on a custom tune, which allows the engine to extract maximum HP. I believe you can get the 9-10 increase without any mods, just by increasing the rev limiters/speed limiter.

I agree.

Interesting...fair enough. I was always under the impression back from the Nissan Maxima days that most of the time, a CAI might actually rob a hp or 2 as they more often than not suffer from heatsoak. So given a best case scenario, I figured only a few hp might be gained. Didn't realize raising the rev limiter had such a drastic effect on the Y51.

Yep. You can also get more power out of the y51 V8 now with the unlock of VVEL. Only one person has done it so far but we have not heard anything from him in a while on the forum. Think he was from Texas and Nico name started with a DFS or something like that. He probably has the fastest NA M56. Russ Smith has the fastest and only Twin Turbo M56 that we know of in the states and probably world.

In all fairness, the OP didn't really clarify what type of CAI he installed. (long tubes or short tubes)

CAI was long tube AEM. In hindsight, I should have just had the ho tested before the CAI install and tune. That was my mistake...

Does Russ have a thread on here with twin turbo or any youtube videos? Do you know if it is running ok with the twin turbo?

There is one or two youtube videos from a few years back when it was in development. Think it was Dyno runs where they were testing it. Russ has posted some freeway pull videos on the Infiniti M35,37,56 FB group but I don't think there are any others outside of that.

When I last talked to him he said it was running pretty good since he recently installed a meth kit on it. He was still having some tuning issues with uprev and trying to get them to get it all squared away. Not sure if he has got them to do it yet. He did give us some dyno sheets where he is putting down 501rwhp and forgot the torque numbers on only 3-6lbs of boost. He is the pioneer for us all with a M56.
