Brought my QX4 to get inspected for the recall and the service manager said my rear transmission output seal was leaking. He quoted me $567.00 to get it fixed, does that price sound right?

Have you verified that it's leaking yourself? Clean the area off with some brake cleaner and ensure that it is indeed leaking.

I don't know if that price is fair. Perhaps try a transmission shop, they might do it for cheaper since trans work is their bread & butter.

Hell to the Naw!!! you can do it in about 30 minutes. I did mine as a matter a fact have to do it again withthe dealer REAR OUTPUT SHAFT SEAL. Put the vehicle on a lift, mark and remove drive shaft, pry out old output shaft seal, use large diameter socket tap new seal in place. Definately not a $500+ job to me. Try dong it yourself and save some cheddar!!!

As stated above, be sure to buy the actual seal and I recommned the dust-cover from Nissan/Infinty dealer.
http://www.nissanpartszone.com/componen ... -1273.html Shows the pathfinder equivalint parts, under $20 for both.

If your not comfortable with doing the work yourself, source out a muffer/transmission shop for labor quotes as this really should be straightforward job under a hour.

If your going to do it yourself, just be sure to use wheel chocks and parking brake as the transmission "P" does not help much once you discconect the shaft. Also if doing this yourself, put some cardboard down under the front part as you don't want that end to fall and hit pavement when your pulling it out. Plus some fluid likely will drip,
